STAFF QUARTERS (NORTH/SOUTH) SECTION:
Staff quarters are residential buildings constructed by the university management to accommodate qualified rent paying staff. Because of large number of buildings involved, the entire campus is divided into north and south and assigned to two sections of workers for effective maintenance services.
Why does the university need staff quarters?
- Proximity: They avoid heavy traffic obtainable outside the university environment and staff can put extra working hours if situation calls for emergency knowing that their residents are not far off.
- Conducive environment: This is to enable the staff enjoy comfortable environment to work in; where there is access water and electricity.
- Security: There is greater security inside the university than outside.
The University of Nigeria Nsukka campus alone has about 630 housing units. In other to ensure adequate maintenance of these buildings
They are divided into Staff quarter north and Staff quarters south
- Staff quarter north: This section carries out maintenance work such as carpentry, masonry, painting and plumbing in the 265 housing units on the Northern part of the campus.
Staff quarter south: This section carries out maintenance work such as carpentry, masonry, painting and plumbing in the 365 housing units on the Northern part of the campus.
